STORMWATER


Because the City of Springfield's stormwater system is listed in the Register as a separate stormwater system we are under federal obligation to develop a stormwater management plan.The City of Springfield obtained a permit from the Department of Environmental Protection. In order to comply with the permit requirements the City must have in place certain programs including:

  • Public education and outreach
  • Public involvement and participation
  • Illicit discharge and detection
  • Construction discharge and control
  • Runoff retention controls for development and redevelopment
  • Municipal operations pollution prevention program

 

University of Florida Extension - IFAS

The University of Florida Bay County Cooperative Extension Services - Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences offers a course on "Environmental Horticulture" that educates homeowners on BMPs. Topics address include proper use of yard chemicals, water conservation practices, mulching and compose practices that reduce, reuse, and recycle yard trash, etc. Another course offered by the IFAS is "4-H". This is an education program for young people (ages 5 through 18) whichs is comprised of various topics, including environmental education.

The United States Evironmental Protection Agency (EPA) offers an educational guide discussing non-profit source pollution at the household level. They also offer another guide explaining what can be done to prevent non-profit source pollution.
