Where do I register to vote?

Where is the Springfield City Hall located?
The Springfield City Hall is located at 3529 E. 3rd Street. Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

How can I vote absentee?
Applications for an absentee ballot may be obtained either by phoning 850-872-7570, ext. 101 or visiting the Information office at the City Hall  Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Who do I contact to arrange public utility services?

Phone service – Contact your selected provider.

Water and sewer and garbage service – Utility Department, City of Springfield, (850) 872-7570, ext. 113 or 115. Deposits, photo ID and proof of rental agreement or ownership will be required at City Hall.  

Electrical service – Gulf Power at 1-800-225-5797

Who do I contact to find out about garbage and trash pick up?
The Department of Sanitation pick up days for garbage are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, depending on what area of town you live in. Wednesday is trash pick up. When does one need a building permit?

Most all new construction needs a building permit. Permits are required for the following types of construction: additions, plumbing alterations, new buildings, signs, electrical alterations, decks, driveway, roof, fireplaces, relocation of structures, site development and swimming pools.

Permitting services are provided for Springfield by the Bay County Development Services Department, 640 Mulberry Ave., Panama City, Fl 32401. Telephone (850) 784-4039, FAX (850) 784-6110. Most permitting services can be done on-line at the Bay County Development Services website.

Can I place a manufactured home in Springfield?
Manufactured homes that bear certification seals of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, (HUD) and the Florida Department of Community Affairs, (DCA) may be placed in Springfield according to the requirements and specifications of Springfield Ordinance 402.

How do I pay a traffic citation in Springfield?
Traffic citations issued by any Bay County law enforcement authority, including the Springfield Police Department, are paid in the Bay County Traffic Division which is located at the Bay County Courthouse, 300 E. 4th St., Panama City, Fl, room 109.

Who are the major employers in town?

The newly constructed VA Nursing Home on Tram Road will be the largest employer upon it's completion in April of 2003.

Springfield has three public schools located on School Avenue; Rutherford High, Everitt Middle School and Springfield Elementary, making the Bay County School Board the second largest employer in Springfield.

The City of Springfield is the third largest employer with 109 employees.On the South side of Springfield but outside the city limits is Arizona Chemical and Stone Container. Together they employ approximately 300 people.

If I am planning on opening a business, what must I do?

Springfield issues three types of business licenses; Commercial, Home Occupation and Home Office of Convenience. Home Occupations are no longer permitted in Low Density Residential areas. If your business' physical address is in Springfield you must have an business license issued by Springfield.

Applications for business licences may be obtained at the Springfield City Hall. There is no fee for the application process. The amount of your yearly business license tax is determined by the type of business you are opening. Each catagory of businesses requires a separate permit. A fire safety inspection is required by the City of Springfield Fire Department on any facility with public access. Additional building inspections may be required as determined by the Springfield Fire Chief or the Office of Code Compliance.
